I first started dancing in Japan. Amidst the sweet chaos of Tokyo I found Mishaal. The depth and beauty of her sacred earth belly dance drew me in and I learnt to dance as if standing on the core of a lotus flower. I became a founding member of the Samanyolu dance troupe. We performed throughout Tokyo, most notably in Kervan Serai and Dakini Nights. Within this troupe we were free to create, and I remain in awe of the dancers' ideas and grace.

I have since returned to England and in London I continue to perform as a soloist. I began to work with live musicians and my dancing has taken me to Jordan, Morocco, Turkey, Spain, Portugal, Holland, Belgium and Switzerland. Dancing amongst the desert rocks in Petra, upon a castle wall in Portugal or in a buzzing scarlet-lit nightclub at Midnight…for me dancing is a moment of trance like beauty and secret playfulness with a knowing audience.

Through my performing, my teaching and my eternal learning I strive to honour the rich and diverse styles of this beautiful dance. I specialize in the classical and the experimental; Ambient Oriental, Tribal fusion, Cabaret, Turkish Romani, Whirling and the Sacred.

*In 2008 hannah adopted the equity name Hannah Mi in honour of her teacher Mishaal and the beautiful cherry blossoms in Tokyo where she learnt to dance.
Hanami means to watch the cherry blossoms and is a much loved season in Japan.

‘I can’t explain in words.
There’s colours…
The Universe opens
The fire
The Water
The Earth
The Air
Resistance crumbles….Falls away
All of the Angels are whirling’

FUSION BELLY DANCE TROUPE

AnaRKali

In 2007 Hannah formed the fusion belly dance troupe AnaRkali. AnaRkali is a troupe of session dancers brought together for events and performances blending styles of tribal belly dance traditional, fusion and experimental.

A mix up of grace, beauty, obsessive technique, flamboyance and a touch of kinetic noise.

See GALLERY for a taster of visual details and LINKS for an idea of live performance.
